Gulf of Naples

Naples is one of the resort cities of Western Italy, located on the northern shore of the Gulf of Naples. Even in ancient times, the coast of the bay was a densely populated territory. Part of the Tyrrhenian Sea in the form of the Gulf of Naples crashes into the coast at 22 km wide entrance 30 km, the maximum depth in the bay - 451 m. Due to the mild climate and rich nature - this is one of the best places to stay in Italy. On the eastern shore is the active volcano Vesuvius, which is a symbol of the bay. On the sides of the entrance to the bay are the famous resort islands - Ischia and Capri.

Every year an increasing number of holidaymakers seek to visit the southern coast of the bay, called the Neapolitan Riviera. The pearl of the Riviera is rightfully considered Sorrento, which in the last century was a popular resort among the Russian nobility. Representatives of the Romanov dynasty and well-known Russian writers Leo Tolstoy, Ivan Turgenev, Maxim Gorky rested here. Sorrento hotels offer magnificent views of Vesuvius.

To the south of Naples in the Gulf of Salerni is Salerno - the city of Normans and Longbards. There is a large archaeological zone, since Greek colonists in this territory as early as the VI century BC founded their settlements.
