The craziest races in the world

September 28, 2014 in Turin will host the Red Bull Soapbox Race (the so-called Soapbox Race). In the funniest and reckless race in the world, all means are good: from a pram to a corncob

Going down the hill with all possible speed that the "cart" would allow without a motor is not easy, but it is very fun. This is the whole Red Bull Soapbox Race, which in Italy this year will be held September 28 in Turin. You can decide to participate in this reckless race before June 13th. By this date, it is necessary to provide the organizers with the composition of the team and the “transport” project, on which you plan to move around during the race. After that, a special jury will consider all the prototypes provided and select sixty-five teams with the most creative projects (plus ten additional), which will be allowed to participate in the race.

Evaluation criteria are determined by the spirit of competition: originality, genius, sympathy, innovative spirit, fantasy and absurdity.

Turin is hosting the Red Bull Soapbox Race for the second time. The 500-meter trail begins with a descent from the Capuchin Mountain and ends with a climb to Corso Fiume Avenue. The “fuel” for vehicles designed by the hands of the participants can be only their courage and still gravity, but creativity and the desire to win are also important factors. Each time, Red Bull Soapbox Race races become a real challenge for experienced pilots and amateurs who need to first construct an original or even crazy “soap box”, and then go down the track as quickly as possible on it.

Since 2000, when the first race was held in Brussels, Red Bull has already organized dozens of such events around the world, in Australia and South Africa, in Jamaica and in the USA. During this time, all possible vehicles participated in the races: from the frames of real cars to such extravagant imaginations as the piano, a giant baby carriage, a rodeo clown, a corncob of Chernobyl sizes, a prison cell and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Each team consists of a driver and three pushers and has three months to implement its project, while it must follow the rules regarding materials allowed for use. The list of selected teams will be announced on June 27. But to win, it’s not fast enough to cross the finish line: the jury also draws attention to the creativity of the crews. Therefore, to earn extra points, participants wear fancy costumes, play humorous scenes and create their own songs specifically for the race.

Winners will be awarded a weekend on the Red Bull Ring during the Austrian Formula 1 2015 Grand Prix. Those who take second place will be able to visit the Red Bull scuderia in Faenza (Toro Rosso a Faenza) and take part in the sports car race at the Imola circuit. And the prize for third place will be a go-kart ticket for 12 people.

An application for participation in the race can be submitted by clicking on the link www.redbullsoapboxrace.com. It also describes all the rules of participation.
