The Rome Marathon will be held on April 10, 2016

Every spring, the capital of Italy opens its arms for the most enduring and the best runners, and 2016 will not be an exception. April 10, 2016 in Rome will be a traditional marathon. In 2016, an amazing event will become even more exciting: after all, exactly 22 years have passed since the first run in 1994!

And the organizers promise to do everything in their power to ensure that all participants and spectators receive a lot of pleasant experiences that will remain with them for life.

Why you should come

There may be several reasons, and all of them are significant: for example, you can bring a certain share of extreme and triumphant spirit to your vacation. And if you are a lover of outdoor activities and sports, then the marathon in Rome is just for you: you will not only take part in a mass event, in addition you will also enjoy the most important sights and beauties of the Italian capital. The thing is that the route of the marathon does not change from the moment of the first race: it passes through St. Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum and many other architectural monuments, and other simply breathtaking places.

The start and finish of the marathon are traditionally located near the Roman Forum.

The Roman marathon is gaining more and more popularity every year, and the statistics kindly provided by its organizers confirm this indisputably.

So, one hundred days before the start of the grand run, applications for participation in it were submitted 7,604 runners from 102 countries from around the world, including 1,286 French, 852 residents of Great Britain, 520 Germans and 450 citizens of the United States of America.

How to apply for participation

The Italians took care of everything, including registration for the marathon. To participate in the race you need to send a medical certificate of your health status, as well as make an entrance fee, the price of which varies depending on the date of submission of your application. By the way, the organizers installed deadline submission of applications for participation in the race: you must be in timeuntil March 22. You can download a sample certificate and questionnaire, as well as get acquainted with the details of registration for the marathon and the conditions for paying the fee, here and here.

Cost of participation

The cost of participation in the Roman marathon depends on the time of application - the earlier, the cheaper:

  • 70.00 Euro until November 30, 2015
  • 80.00 euros until February 4, 2016
  • 90.00 euros until March 22, 2016 (the last day of receipt of applications)

All action will begin on April 10 at 8:50 am local time. Runners earlier started at 9 in the morning, but this year it was decided to start the marathon ten minutes earlier so as not to interfere with Pope Francis, as well as thousands of believers during the reading of the Sunday prayer “Angelus”.

So, the start and finish point is still unchanged: Via dei Fori Imperiali (Via dei Fori Imperiali). Download from the route map in PDF.

Awarding of the winners will take place on the same day. The fastest athletes of the 2016 marathon will receive branded medals with the image of a man and a woman who run side by side with each other - a symbol of the Roman marathon, uniting people and entire nations. This year, Marco Pittaci, a young and talented sculptor, was designing medals.

In addition to the excellent mood and amazing atmosphere, the organizers of the marathon prepare many different rewards and bonuses for the participants: for example, all runners who have their registration number on their clothes will be able to free use of public transport and the metro on race day. Moreover, they will have at their disposal a number of showers, where they will be given the opportunity to cool their ardor after an exhausting run.

Participants in the race will not encounter any obstacles: the police of Rome will take care of the partial suspension of car traffic during the marathon, as well as ensure a high level of safety for all runners. You can find out more about the Roman marathon on the official website: www.maratonadiroma.it. Good luck and stamina!
