How to get there

How to get to Rome from Fiumicino Airport

Today we will learn how to get from Fiumicino Airport to Rome by train, Mercedes, bus, taxi and rented car. In any case, sooner or later you will find yourself in Terminal number 3, since it is your luggage that is displayed in it. From here we will begin our adventure.

By train for 8-14 euros per person

  • For those who don't like buses. The total travel time to the hotel is 1-2 hours.

Getting to Rome, but not to the center, by train is very simple, just follow the signs (the train on a yellow background with the inscription “Train”) and not really improvise. Your first task is to find a train station at the airport. To do this, it is enough to raise your head from time to time and not turn anywhere. To make it more comfortable for you to navigate on arrival, I have prepared the following photo instructions.

So, you have successfully waited for baggage and left in the arrivals hall.

Immediately you will see a crowd of greeters. And a bunch of fashionable and not very Italians in jackets, even in August +35 with signs.

These are all individual transfers. You can pre-order the same from a friend of our editorial Sergio and remove the problem of delivering you to the hotel or turn right and follow the 100 meters following the signs for the train. Soon on the left you will see an escalator, ticket office and ticket vending machines. There is often a turn, I advise you not to waste time. We will buy a ticket later.

We cheerfully follow the escalator system for about 5 minutes, without turning anywhere. The correct direction is constantly duplicated on the signs. Getting lost is very difficult.

After 5-10 minutes of confident walking, you are at the station. There is also nothing complicated - you need to buy a ticket at the box office or at the vending machine yourself.

If you go to Termini station, then you buy a ticket for the Leonardo Express train for 14 euros, and if at the station Trastevere, Ostiense (metro line B), Tuscolana (metro line A), Tiburtina (metro line A), then take a ticket for a regional train (Treno Regionale) for 8 euros. Or just at the checkout, say which station you are on.

  • Useful article: Metro Rome - instructions for use

Attention: Leonardo express train always leaves from the second path (in the middle), be careful! He goes non-stop to the very Termini. Once my friend Vladimir, whom I was waiting on Trastevere, sat down in absent-mindedness. As a result, we met 2 hours later than planned + he had to get by taxi, as it was rather difficult to navigate in Rome for the first time.

I advise you to have a credit card and cash with you, since the cash desk may not work, especially in the evening, and the machine will not accept cash, and therefore also do not work.

Get used to the fact that in the Country where the main slogan is “More idleness and communication”, everything to check, double-check and play safe should be a habit. So just in case, before landing, look at the new scoreboard.

Your ticket can be used within the next day 1 time. Before the trip it must be composted. If the composter suddenly does not work, which happens, then write the time and date with a pen and calmly board the train.

It looks like a regional train from the outside.

And so inside

It remains to check the schedule and wait for the train. Sometimes late.

Attention: the last train of Leonardo and the regional train depart from the airport at about 11:20 p.m. - the schedule changes, just check the time on the date of your arrival at Trenitalia.com

As you can see, everything is not so scary. Welcome to Italy!

On a Mercedes for 50 euros for 1-4 people

  • For those who value their comfort, time and nerves. The road to the hotel takes 25-30 minutes.

7 years ago, fate brought me to Sergio, and the transfer problem in Rome was resolved forever. Over the years, Yana and I have used his services about 50 times, and he has never been late, failed, or deceived. For the Italian, it is super reliable. Therefore, I sincerely recommend it to all friends and readers of our site for free. If all Italians were like Sergio, Italy would be the most prosperous nation. Maybe somewhere in the north of the country there are more such people, but in the south there are only a few such people. And I admire him!

You can book your transfer yourself without intermediaries and commissions on the Russian website of Sergio ru.rome4.us. For a fixed amount of 50 euros you will be met at the airport and taken to the hotel with a breeze. No surcharges and surprises, as with taxi drivers, which are read below.

  • Tip: If you have a large company, up to 8 people, or a lot of baggage, Sergio will arrange for you a reliable minibus transfer for 70 euros.Maximum capacity of the trunk of a Mercedes E-class: 2 large suitcases of 20 kg + 2 small suitcases measuring 25x40x55 cm. Carriage of suitcases in the cabin is not allowed.

By bus for 6 euros per person

  • For those who have a limited budget and a lot of time. The road to the hotel will take 1.5-2 hours.

I admit, I have never traveled by bus from the airport, but I know from my friends that this is cheap and easy, but not always fast. I myself do not really welcome buses because of my growth.

The TerraVision bus carrier offers you transfer from the airport to Termini Station for just € 5.80 one way. Buses depart every 30 minutes. Travel time is about 60 minutes, depending on traffic. So if you are in no hurry and have a limited budget, a bus is your option. And from Termini station, jump into the subway or bus and go to the hotel.

  • Bus schedule
  • Terravision official website www.terravision.eu

Tickets I advise you to buy tickets in advance online (so cheaper). If your flight is delayed, then you will be put on the next bus without any problems. Lay on passport control and baggage claim for about 50-75 minutes. For example, you arrive at 12:00, then take a bus ticket at 13:30. All buses are on the right side relative to the exit from the arrivals area in Terminal 3.

Livehack: if you buy an online round-trip ticket right away, you can save a lot. The return train from Termini to Fiumicino will cost you only 3.20 euros.

Attention: the last bus leaves from Fiumicino at 23:00. Keep in mind that if your arrival after 22:00 then the option to travel by bus does not suit you - you do not have time to get your luggage, buy a ticket or there will be no more seats on the bus. Plan other ways.

By taxi for 48-70 euros

  • For those who are not worried about anything, even these tips are hardly read.

There are legends about what chaos Roman taxi drivers did several years ago. Now, for any trip from Fiumicino to the territory of Rome inside the wall of Aurelian, by law, you should be asked to pay a fixed price in 48 euros if you fulfill several conditions. And now a few chips of taxi drivers:

Do you know where the wall of Aurelian begins and ends? Wikipedia tells us that this is almost the entire center of the city, but how do you know for sure if in Rome for the first time. For example, Piazza Navona, the Vatican and Trastevere areas are formally outside the walls.

Inside each taxi you can find rates in Italian, English and Spanish, which say that:

  • The first suitcase is free, and the next one is larger than 35x25x50 cm, + 1 euro
  • The journey from Fiumicino to Tiburtina station costs 55 euros, to Ostiense - 45 euros, to the port of Civitavecchia - 120 euros, to Ciampino airport - 50 euros.
  • No taxi ride inside Rome can exceed 70 euros. Remember this!

If you are sure that you are right, then feel free to call the police, even if you are wrong, no one will fine you, and taxi drivers will most likely get scared and will bargain with you.

My experience: Of the approximately 50 times that I had used a taxi in Rome, in about half the cases I felt a catch. For example, one day I drove home from the same place for 13 euros, and the next one for 21 euros. Once a taxi driver billed us 90 euros with Castel Romano instead of the previously agreed 60. As a result, they almost got into a fight and bargained for 70 euros. By the way, we drove there for only 45. This is my personal experience, it may be less negative for you. In any case, now for trips to the airport I always call Sergio, which I wrote about above.

On a rented car

For whom: for independent travelers who want to visit other cities.

It’s not rational to drive around Rome by car and it’s unlikely that you will succeed, since entry to the historical center is allowed only through special passes. But no one bothers you to choose a hotel on the border of the historic center and park your car there. And after a day or two, go on an independent trip to Italy.
In fact, renting a car in Italy is very simple. This can be done right at the airport. If you have booked a car in advance, processing all the documents and getting the car will take you about 30 minutes - the 21st century is still in the yard, friends, this is very convenient. For only 35-50 euros per day, you can use your own car and be free to move.

Using the service of comparing prices for car rental in Italy auto.italy4.me you can find the most profitable option for you in terms of price / quality ratio.

  • We advise you to read: how to avoid fines in Rome

Here are an example of several options for renting a car for 5 days, if you take and return it directly to the Airport Terminal, which, you will agree, is convenient:
Volkswagen Golf for 161 euros / 5 days is only 32 euros / day.

The beauty Alfa Romeo Giulietta for 190 euros / 5 days is already 38 euros / day

Or SUV Nissan Qashqai for crazy 259 euros / 5 days - it's almost 52 euros / dayworth thinking about. Oh yes, there’s also a special offer - "Rent includes GPS rental for free." Then maybe ... I hope you understand that I'm joking. 52 euros is just ridiculous, I don’t know how they pay off, but there really are such offers.

And if you are a large company of up to 9 people, take rent a minibus for 90 euros per day and travel with friends.

I hope, dear readers, that the topic "How to get from Fiumicino Airport to Rome" is fully disclosed for you. See also detailed instructions on how to get to the Vatican.

Also with the help of THIS INSTRUCTION you can get your own route to any point of interest in Rome.

I will be glad to answer your questions in the comments to the article.
